Muslim Batman in Paris

In 1 of my previous post, Batman Inc., I mentioned that I wouldn't like the concept of Batman being franchise. For some reason I'm starting to be loving it.

Nightrunner or his real name Bilal Asselah is a 22 years old, French, Sunni Muslim with high skills in parkour. The introduction of Nightrunner as one of Batman allies has make some people dont approve a Muslim Batman. 

PARIS - BATMAN has battled many enemies but now has to face the anger of rightwing US blogers furious that the comic book caped crusader has recruited a Muslim to run his crime-fighting franchise in Paris.

'The character's name is Bilal Asselah and he is an Algerian Sunni Muslim and an immigrant that is physically fit and adept at the gymnastic sport parkour,' wrote Warner Todd Huston on his site Publius Forum.

'Apparently Batman couldn't find any actual Frenchman to be the 'French saviour',' wrote the right-winger, apparently discounting the millions of French citizens of North African descent from his definition of 'actual' French.

In the December issues of DC Comics Detective Comics Annual and Batman Annual, the caped crusader decides to set up Batman Incorporated and install a superhero in cities around the world to fight crime.

The hero he picks in France is called Nightrunner, the alter ego of a 22-year-old from Clichy-sous-Bois, a tough Paris suburb where urban unrest sparked riots in immigrant districts across France in 2005.

Bilal Asselah, a Frenchman of Algerian origin, was caught up in that unrest and at one point he and his friend got beaten up by police who mistook them for rioters. Bilal's friend reacted by later burning down a police station and ended up being killed by police. But Bilal, thanks largely to the influence of his pious Muslim mother, rejects hate and fear. -- AFP

Nightrunner remains the same look with only the Bat symbol as a new addition, unlike Batman of Japan where he gave up his Mr. Unknown character. It's much more better to maintain his own character but at the same time he is one of those Batman

The acknowledgment in the final pages comes as Wayne holds a news conference where he asks those gathered: "Some of you may have wondered ... how does a man like Batman afford to constantly update his crime-fighting technology? Where does his money come from?" 

"Well, the answer is me." 

this by far the most so not cool thing happening to Batman
with Bruce Wayne telling the world that he is financing Batman, now he is going to incorporated the Batman franchise,
which means there's going to be lots of Batman around the world and also maybe lots of Batman toys selling the whole world..

Superman Comic Saves Family From Foreclosure

More than 70 years after Superman first saved the day in the pages of a comic book, the Man of Steel has reached out and saved a family in the real world.

 

Asylum reports that a family was packing up their belongings after their bank had started foreclosure proceedings, when they came across a box of comic books in the basement.

 

But this wasn't just any box, and the family suspected they'd struck gold when they discovered among the titles "Action Comics No. 1," the comic that introduced Superman to the world and brought to life the superhero genre, which remains popular to this day.

 

It also happens to be worth upward of $250,000. Asylum writes:

 

The house had been in the family's possession since the 1950s, which is probably when the wife's father stashed the issue in a box with some other, mere mortal titles.

 

When the family contacted Stephen Fishler, the co-owner of ComicConnect and Metropolis, he was naturally skeptical after receiving countless similar calls, of which "99.9%" turn out to be reprints, he told Asylum. But then they texted him a cell phone picture of its cover, which features Superman holding a car, and Fishler knew he'd found the key to comic book fans' collections all over the world.

The comic is expected to fetch more than a quarter-million dollars when it goes up for auction on ComicConnect -- and that's a low estimate. In February of this year, an unrestored copy of "Action Comic No. 1" sold for $1 million, according to the Los Angeles Times, followed a month later by the sale of another copy in better condition at $1.5 million.

But don't go hunting down the family for what's left over after they get back up to speed on their mortgage. They told Fishler they'd like to remain anonymous, although they did tell Asylum that they were "shell-shocked about finding this book.":

 

"I know I am very fortunate, but I will be greatly relieved when this book finds a new home."

Thankfully, it looks like they'll get to keep theirs.

Get Ready For Smallville Season 10

The official trailer of Smallville Season 10 was shown at SDCC (that's San Diego Comic Con if you don't know). It started with a some clips from the previous seasons and as it comes to the newest season, people at the SDCC were really excited (so was I)

Batman: Under The Red Hood

Batman faces a new Red Hood, a vigilante and a criminal at the same time. Red Hood method of keeping Gotham City peace is different from what the Batman stood for: killing is an option.

The movie started Jason Todd @ Robin II (although he seems to wear the costume of Tim Drake @ Robin III), being hit by Joker using a crowbar and killed in explosion. An image similar to 'A Death in the Family'. Batman regarded it as his biggest failure.

Years later, Red Hood starting to clean the city in his own way. Criminal seems to be scared of this new 'vigilante' since he can kill. Batman and Nightwing confronted him and even Nightwing was impressed with the new Red Hood but Batman found something shocking upon knowing the truth about the new Red Hood.

"Na na-na-na-na, you guys can't catch me"

If this was a live action movie, it would definitely be a great movie. The story was really good, plot to plot and how emotions were played during the flashbacks.  Its a good movie to watch while waiting for second sequel of Batman. Its a worthy collection for Batman fans.

1966 Batman Movie

When i was young, i love watching this TV series...just love the 

 "POW!" "BANG!" "SPLOOSH" "PLUNK!"

Being a Batman fan, I've watched all its cartoon, comics, TV series and movies...including the 1966 movie which Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) faces four villains who plan to hold the world for ransom with the help of a secret invention that instantly dehydrates people. ( I got really confuse with the science terms in this movie, but who cares....it was a fun movie to watch)

Batman: The Killing Joke

I've finally manage to get this novel graphic after quite a long time. Hard to get, luckily, it was the the last copy(or i have to order and wait), and I just took it without thinking much. At first, I wanted to buy The Question: Zen and Violence...but....this was kinda hard to get in Malaysia. Bought the deluxe edition which DC has announced a 20th anniversary special hard cover edition of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s classic Batman tale The Killing Joke.

Being a Batman fan, I was happy to get this copy. Have quite few Batman collection back home since few years ago. Written by Alan Moore (V for Vendetta, Watchmen, League of Extaordinary Gentlemen) and drawn by Brian Bolland (2000AD, Camelot 3000). In a way, I could say this was like the origins of Joker, The Clown Prince of Crime.

The man who will become the Joker is an unnamed engineer who quits his job at a chemical company to become a stand up comedian, only to fail miserably. Desperate to support his pregnant wife, Jeannie, he agrees to guide two criminals into the plant for a robbery. During the planning, the police inform him that his wife has died in a household accident involving an electric baby bottle heater. Grief-stricken, the engineer tries to withdraw from the plan, but the criminals strong-arm him into keeping his commitment to them.

At the plant, the criminals make him don a special mask to become the infamous Red Hood. Unknown to the engineer, this disguise is simply the criminals' scheme to implicate any accomplice as the mastermind to divert attention from themselves. Once inside, they almost immediately blunder into security personnel, and a violent shootout and chase ensues. The criminals are gunned down and the engineer finds himself confronted by Batman, who is investigating the disturbance.

Panicked, the engineer deliberately jumps into the chemical plant's toxic waste catch-basin vat to escape Batman and is swept through a pipe leading to the outside. Once outside, he discovers, to his horror, that the chemicals have permanently bleached his skin chalk white, stained his lips ruby red and dyed his hair bright green. This turn of events, compounding the man's misfortunes of that one day, drives him completely insane and results in the birth of the Joker.

The big effect from this event was, Barbara Gordon was shoot by Joker and become paralyse and for that she cant become Bat Girl but becomes Oracle(if you have watch Birds of Prey, you'll know)

And I've notice that some how the first Batman movie which was directed by Tim Burton, had a bit of influence of the Joker's origin especially when Jack was drop by Batman (yeah...I've watch few times and seems like Batman purposely let Jack fall....heh..i think) to the toxic waste which he survives and blah..blah..blah..you know the rest right.

The Dark Knight, which Ledger was the Joker(best act as a Joker i've known) also uses this book as a reference especially having 'multiple choices'.

Back to the book, the ending wasnt much as i expected like the title itselfs. During te last pages, Joker starts telling Batman a joke and somehow Batman was laughing....a bit creepy when Batman is laughing.

To tell you the truth, there's a lot of Joker's origins but mostly it has the same thing in common, toxic waste@chemical waste. If you have this comic like 20 years ago and still in a good condition, it could worth from 8 USD to 32USD for the each issues and 18USD for the hard cover.
