It’s a public holiday in Sabah, Sarawak n Labuan(i think) on Friday, my parents plan to go to Tawau….Never ask why and for how many days, i decided to join them. I’m assuming that we will be in Tawau till Sunday. What make’s me wanted to join this trip is we’re goin thru the back….passing thru Papar, Keningau, Nabawan, Kalabakan then arriving to Tawau.
We started our journey at 6.30 am(although my father planned to go as early as 5.30 am). From home to Keningau, my father drove for about 1.5 hour. Had breakfast there before my turn to drive till Sapulut (i just know the existence of this place and some other interesting names of kampongs)
Those road signs to Tawau are crazy, less than 5 minute before we reach this sign, it telling that Tawau was 280km
The road from Sapulut to Kalabakan is a gravel road. Lots of dusts and stones. The road is actually used by lorry bringing kayu balak. If a car were in front of us, we need to slow down as its really hard to see. Macam kena makan asap!!
Gravel road to Kalabakan
Nothing much interesting along the road, probably just the scenery of the green jungle and some streams along the way. We did stop by at Maliau Basin. Its a conservation area by the government and also by some Danish group. Hopefully will be there again. Heard that there’s like a cabin or resort something there.
Lots of balak there in Kalabakan, with lots of sizes. It’s probably used to make papers…..worst case scenario probably is making a cucuk gigi (toothpick).

Arrived in Tawau around 3. Staying in Kingston hotel. It’s really nice. I think it’s a new hotel in the town. Later this evening went to the market to buy some things. Ada di Tawau tapi nda ada di KK bah!!! Well…actually those things my parents bought are cheaper than in KK.
Nice clean room
At night, had dinner somewhere….seafood…..
Steam fish, butter prawn, vege, and siput tarik
Then, had some durian
Just find out that we’re goin back to KK on Saturday. Wow….around Sabah in two days….this is what i call pusing satu Sabah!!
(this event occurred last month actually, trip during the the Good Friday/ Easter week)
